Technology

I think that technology has come a long way even in the past few years. I really think that it made it easier for our group to accomplish the tasks we were trying to accomplish for the proposal becuase we could not meet face to face every time. When you have 4 or 5 students in a group that are all for the most part taking totally different classes, it is almost impossible to try to come up with times in which the entire group can be present for a meeting, especially when you have a couple people that have an even busier schedule due to playing a sport. I think the biggest help was definitely email. We used it almost everyday to communicate back and forth to one another about ideas or finishings touches on the final proposal.

Ethics

I think that ethics are a very important part of a person's core values. People usually always do the right thing under normal circumstances, but it is what people do under pressure or when they can gain anything at the dispense of someone else is what makes people who they are and shows their true values and beliefs. The JUST article really just made me say "wow." I could not believe that they were actually talking about people and I will admit I would have never guessed that in a million years. I guess it is where I am from and the way I was brought up, but I just do not see how people can do that to other human beings, but that goes for pretty much all the unethical things people choose to do.

Miscommunication

I have not really encountered a situation in which a "big" communication has occurred in the job field. Little things are easy to get miscommunicated but as far as something very important I have not been around it yet, maybe thats because I have not been employed except for summers up until now. I can think of a very big miscommunication that happened my senior year of baseball. We were playing to go the state championship and the score was tied 2-2 in the last inning. A ball was hit to the wall and our guy was rounding third and the coach put the "stop" sign up for the guy rounding second base, but the problem was the guy at third thought this was for him so he stopped and we lost the game in extra innings.

Last presention/online portfolio

Of the last few presentations we heard, I would have to say that I loved Jeremy's about tattoos. I actually have one and am definitely addicted but broke right now... but I actaully love hearing stories about tattoos becuase they almost always usually have an interesting or cool story behind them. As far as the online portfolios, I have no experience except for the required e-portfolio that we have to do, which I havent even started yet.

Presentations

I have enjoyed all the presentations up to this point. I think if i had to choose three of my favorites one would have to be the one about the best ways to survive in a big family. This presentation was very good because she had all the listeners' full attention because it was so funny. Another one that I thought was very interesting was the one about the sailboats and Clemson sail club. I think what made this one good was the fact that not many people know much about sailing much less the club, so I think everyone was fully interested. I think another one that I thought was interesting was the one about Orlando. This one was just kind of good because she pointed out all the things to do there instead of Disney World. Kinda of makes me want to go to see everything else.

Cover Letters

I actually found almost all the information given in the collegegrad article to be very helpful, mainly because i know absolutely nothing about writing a good cover letter. One of the more interesting things that I found out was that the cover letter is not actually read first. I always just kind of figured since it was the "cover letter" that the employers always read this first, but actually its one of the last things read. I think another very point made was about the mass email. I havent sent many off because i have not applied to many companies, but this does actually sound like a bad idea. This kind of reminded me of Angie's story with App State. I think the only way to avoid this is to actually make each and every cover letter unique for different companies, even though this may take a little more time to do.

Client Interview

I think our client visit went really well the other day. I think that our class did a very good job of not only asking questions about the actual project and what was going on, but also alot of questions about how all these things would happen. I think one of the best ideas brought up was the question about the farm having the actual capacity to support the company we were talking about getting in touch with. I think one of the biggest concerns needs to be first getting all this information out the student body before the actual marketing begins. The reason I say this is because I for one do not even know about the Airmark or whatever company we were talking about. I didnt even know thats where Clemson got their food from. I think this is very important to get this to the students to let them know whats going on, as well as marketing to them the ideas or more organic food choices.

Interview Mistakes

I definitely think that these are some of the biggest mistakes that people make in an interview. I think all these things relate directly back to not being very prepared before the interview. I know during my interviews the biggest thing I kept telling my self was to not let myself ask any stupid questions and make my self look stupid in front of the manager or whoever was running the interview. I feel like I am very well prepared before the interview starts and when the person walks in the room it all goes down the drain and the nervousness kicks in full throttle. I think my biggest problems are that I have some pretty important questions to ask the interviewer, and when I get there I forget everything that I was thinking about. Now that I know what a cover letter and resume is supposed to look like, I feel like I didnt deserve to get some of the jobs. The biggest thing I try to think about is being as nice and try to listen as much as possible, as well as providing feedback.

Free Topic

I really dont have much going on to write about right now but I was listening to the radio the radio after the Georgia Tech game that made me really mad. I also saw it on the tigernet website. The radio host was talking about how "pathetic" the students were for not showing up and filling the student section on that Sunday night game. I was really angry because I feel like that should not have been said. I know that we have a top ten team now but there were other things going on that probably conflicted with many peoples' schedules. I know one thing that was going on was the fraternity rush. I also know that alot of people didnt go because they were still pretty mad about how the ticket distribution was done for the Wake Forest game. There were still 8 thousand people there in a 10 thousand seat arena on a Sunday night. I just think that too big a deal was made of this and it probably made any clemson fan, especially students that dont hardly miss games, angry.

Ten Years

Ten years from now I have no idea what or will be doing but I do know what I would like my life to be like. I hope to have found a great job by this point doing something in the sports industry. That is the most important thing to me, to attain a job that I love waking up in the morning to go to. By then I hope to have my own place and the biggest thing would be to get these loans payed off and to be as financially stable as possible. That way when, if ever, im ready to have kids they wont have anything to worry about. No but really I am not sure when I want to have kids, I dont think I am panning that one out, if it happens it happens. Maybe by this time I will have settled down and started to think about marriage but thats not something on my mind right now. I hope to have a great job not too far from Clemson to be sure im still able to make it to all the Clemson athletics.

Web 2.0

The video bring out some very good ideas about how the internet has not only changed so much over the past decade or so, but how it has changed our lives so much. The idea that the web is becoming us is also a good idea in that, especially our generation, relies so much on the internet for so many things most of which are everyday tasks. Things like job applications are all done online now is just a simple example. People in our generation use the internet for so many things, especially school work. I think it is mainly just showing an example pf how times are changing so rapidly and even in the future they will be so much different than they are right now.

Intro

Hi my name is Kyle Cook. I am currently a Junior at Clemson but have only been here two years from transferring. So far I can honestly say it has definitely been the best two years of my life. My major as of right now is Management with a minor in Athletic Leadership. Some of my hobbies are hunting and fishing, and really just about anything athletic or any type of sport. That is probably my biggest passion is watching and playing any kind of sport I can get my hands on especially baseball, football (well now flag football), and basketball. An ultimate goal of mine is to obtain a job one day with a sport team or something of that nature, something that I would love waking upo and doing instead of dreading going to work. I'm a very easy going, easy to get along with person and I hope to have a great semester meeting some new people!!!
